1、 Disinfection of washing tank
The fish tank you just bought can’t be used to raise fish directly. You must clean it first and disinfect it at the same time. In general, potassium permanganate or sea salt is used for disinfection. After it is mixed into a solution, it is poured into it. The concentration is not too high, and then it is cleaned again. If you want to put some decorations in the tank, you should also wash and disinfect them so that they will not pose a threat to the health of the fish.
2、 Place with water
After the fish tank is cleaned, it can’t be used to raise fish immediately. You need to add water and let it stand for a few days. If conditions permit, the trapped water can be drained directly, or tap water can only be added. As the tap water contains chlorine, the fish will die after being put into it, so it is necessary to open the filter and let it stand for a few days to remove chlorine. In addition, if you want to raise tropical fish, you’d better preheat it with a heating rod.
3、 Nitrifying bacteria
If the feces from fish are not cleaned in the tank for a long time, the overall water quality will be affected, but if there are nitrifying bacteria, this can be effectively improved. After filtering the water in the fish tank for a period of time, nitrifying bacteria can be added. Usually, the water will become turbid after being added. At this time, you can put some fish food to decompose them. Generally, the decomposition will be completed after three to five days. The water will become clear and sticky.
4、 Run through the tank to test water
The above three steps are the way to open the tank, but it is unknown whether the water is suitable for fish farming. Don’t put the fish in the tank at this time. First, prepare some fish to break the tank. Select some more skinny species to see if they can adapt to the environment. If they can grow normally, they can put other fish in the tank. The first step for novices to raise fish is to open the tank. The fish tank you bought should be disinfected first. After soaking it in potassium permanganate for a period of time, pour it out and wash it with clean water. After disinfection, water shall be added and it shall be left for several days to wait for chlorine to volatilize. After that, add nitrifying bacteria and fish food, and wait for the water to become clear. Put some fish in the jar. If it’s OK to keep them for half a month, they can start to put them in.
